iPhone envy

February 6, 2008 · No Comments

This is my true confession for all my Mac loving PC bashers who know how much I love Windows Mobile… I’m envious of the smooth and beautiful iPhone.  In its first year, Apple has sold over a million iPhones and now has surpassed Windows Mobile as far as market share (read more about that here).  Microsoft, for as big as you are, why can’t you get it right when it comes to making consumers happy???  I was giving you time to come out with something new but it looks like your next release will be a small improvement which means we’re stuck again with the clunkiest interface available.

Apple, I’m not ready for an iPhone yet because even though you blow Windows Mobile out of the water with your interface, you’re missing too many features.  Here’s what I would need to get an iPhone:  a keyboard, blackberry service, and mms.  Of course I would like 3G internet and other cool things, but… I’ll settle for those things.

Apple Mac Air’s Super Sunday

January 18, 2008 · 1 Comment

pic.jpgWhen I went to Bible college, one of the most sobering realities was that you can’t have Super Sunday every Sunday. In charismatic circles, the best services are impassioned, spontaneous, and riveting. But as Dr. Leach said, “It’s not super if it happens every Sunday.” So reality sinks in that you can’t expect OR fabricate a super moment. And I think that’s what Steve Jobs is experiencing right now.

Forbes has been running some interesting articles about MacWorld and the beautiful Apple Macbook Air. It’s a stunning machine and the magician pulling it out of a manila envelope is breathtaking. But if you want it, be prepared to spend between $1800 and $2800 (depending on the drive). It’s expensive and it’s missing some basics: removable battery, optical drive, and a PCMCIA slot (no broadband wireless for you). But it’s BEAUTIFUL and has incorporates a multi-touch trackpad in a sleek THIN aluminum design.

So while the keynote wasn’t lackluster and the new device has enough to gripe about, it’s time to remember that you can’t have Super Sunday every Sunday. Preachers who ALWAYS hype it up eventually lose their credibility… and their congregation.

On an edtech note, this device isn’t even being considered for purchase for students because: 1) it’s too expensive and 2) you can’t remove the battery. Both dealbreakers for the education sector.

Did 800 Apple employees just get fired for swindling their employer?

October 20, 2007 · No Comments

Photo by Aidan C. Siegel used under Creative Commons from wikipedia.orgI just read a crazy rumor on The Boy Genius Report (soon rising to my favorite blog status).  BGR says that 800 Apple employees are getting the boot because they took advantage of the system.  Remember that Apple gave $100 rebates to early adopters to make them feel better about paying $600 for a device that was lowered to $400 shortly after?  Well, remember that Apple gave free iPhones to their employees?  Apparently, some of those employees (800 of them) cashed in on the $100 rebate as well.  Now they’re being fired.  Sounds drastic, right?
